The elemental forces of the American culture; character, grit, perseverance, and resilience have all lost their place in the ethos of the American dream.
Why You Want to Believe…in the Unbelievable, the Unprovable, and Downright Absurd!

Call in with your questions and comments @ (301) 560-6992

Ah, the glamorous life!

You watched it and thought, “what if it could be true?” You may have even said “hey, I feel that way too! Sometimes.” Then you probably said something like this, “Wow! All I have to do to live my fantasy life is think it, believe it, and then I’ll receive it. Just like the people in the movie.”

You guessed it, tonight we’re going to talk about the movie, The Secret and its subsequent teachings on The Law of Attraction. Yes, I know, this is a bit of a dated topic (at least to me that is) but since The Wild Kat has just discovered it I feel compelled to discuss it. The basic premise is this: if you want it bad enough, whether it’s your dream relationship, your dream job, or to see your name up in lights over broadway, you can have it. It just takes you aligning yourself with the right vibrational resonance of the object, person, or destination of your desires and you’ll achieve it. Yep, think it, believe it, then get ready to receive it.

Do you ever ask yourself why you believe the things you’ve come to believe? How do you benefit from those beliefs? Are they providing you with the right perspective and motivation to actually achieve your dreams? How are you measuring your success? I can go on and on but you get the picture.

Tune in to The Mushin Hour—Extended! on The Wild Kat Show tonight at 7 p.m. and tell us how you’ve succeeded at achieving your goals by using The Law of Attraction or any other superstitious belief you adhere to. The Wild Kat genuinely wants to know if The Law of Attraction really works or if everybody who believes is just delusional. Of course I have my own scientific take on the whole phenomena so tune in to hear my side of the story. I promise it’ll be enlightening:-)

Call in with your questions and comments @ (301) 560-6992

We all think we’ll be happier in the future. Some where out there in the not so distant future, life will be better. It will be what we’ve always known it should be; a life filled with endless joy, passion, and a defined purpose.

The problem is we don’t stop to consider how different we will be in the future while we’re here in the present. Scientists call this phenomenon the “end of history illusion”. We recall our past and acknowledge how much we’ve changed but then we look to the future and expect that we’ll be the same as we are now. This is an ‘illusion of stability’. Somehow, by staying the same our lives will be different. And more often than not we expect that different to mean better.

The truth is, we fail to appreciate how our behaviors, likes and dislikes, goals and aspirations, successes and failures will cause changes in our lives and in essence, change us in the future. Take a moment and think about how different you are now from 10 years ago. Wouldn’t it stand to reason that in the next 10 years you’ll be different from what you are now? The question that should be of most concern to us all is “what we will change to?” What will you become in the future that you are not now?

I have a sobering answer, you will become more of what you are today. For better and for worst. For richer and for poorer. Your willingness to Change Your Ways Now determines your happiness tomorrow.

Join the conversation TONIGHT at 7 p.m. live on The Mushin Hour—Extended! The future you will thank the present you.

Most times on The Mushin Hour—Extended! we talk about SUCCESS and achievement, and how you can position yourself to experience both in your lifetime. I’ll usually throw in a few tools that give you some way of forcing the change necessary within your behavior to see SUCCESS happen. You can think of these tools as a compass guiding you in the right direction toward your goals. It’s a good tool to have and essentially pretty easy to acquire because SUCCESS after all leaves evidence. Compile those tools along with the evidence and you get a map of your potential future outcomes. Interestingly enough, the same can be done with FAILURE.

Tonight I’m going to talk about the flip side of that compass; FAILURE! and the Sorrows of Living an Unfulfilled Life.

In the business publication media, a lot of press is given to best practices in business that elevate the act of failing to a level of reverence. You may have undoubtedly heard the quote, “Want to succeed faster? Double your failure rate!” That approach may work well for the business world but we all know its the death knell for our personal lives. Just imagine screwing up so much that you’re constantly creating more sorrow and regret in your life. Does that sound like a life plan you can endorse? After all, your personal life failures is not some case study filled with quantitative teaching points you can debate at Harvard Business School.

You are an emergent person. Your life is dynamic. Everything matters. All the elements of your past, present, and potential future play a part in you becoming the person you are at each moment. You shouldn’t have to live to regret that.

Join the conversation TONIGHT at 7 p.m. live on The Mushin Hour—Extended! as we discuss this heartbreaking topic, FAILURE! and the Sorrows of Living an Unfulfilled Life. And maybe, just maybe I can help you learn how you can avoid this all too common path and achieve a life of success worth aspiring to.

Success! Let’s face it, we’re all trying to achieve it, both in our professional and personal lives. Yet very few of us actually achieve this highly sought after status. According to the lastest scientific research, its our lack of willpower. Apparently having willpower used to be a sign of strong character back in the early twentieth century, but we’ve gotten smarter and more technologically-advanced since then and in our wisdom instituted programs that raised our confidence and self-esteem with mantras like, “if it feels good, do it.” Well that hasn’t turned out so well because on all global tests Americans rank highest in confidence and self-esteem but lowest in math and science scores (say what you may about math and science but all the signs show that its the future to a nation’s prosperity).

Interestingly, Americans consistently point to a lack of personal willpower as the number one challenge to achieving their goals. This lack of self-control has shown to be a major contributing factor to many of our societal problems: high divorce rate, drug and alcohol abuse, domestic violence, crime, bankruptcy, obesity, and unrestrained consumerism, etc. It’s pretty hard to consider yourself a success if you’re suffering from these shortcomings.

On the other hand, international studies show that people who exhibit stronger willpower/self-control are physically healthier, get paid more, have better and longer lasting relationships, are more emotionally stable (suffer less anxiety, paranoia, depression, and other psychotic illnesses), and are generally happier overall. Sounds like it might be worth getting some willpower back into our lives doesn’t it?

Let’s face it, you and I are huge Advocates of Human Success. We’re highly ambitious and driven to achieve more in our careers and home life than the average person. Often at a tremendous costs to our long-term success and happiness, we measure our achievements based on the short-term rewards we receive, whether from the outside world or our own chemically-induced feelings of satisfaction, not realizing the truth of how long it really takes to build a life of meaning and purpose. None of us plan to become failures, yet somehow it happens to most everybody.

Clayton Christensen, legendary Harvard Business School professor and best-selling author, reflects on what he has learned as a leading authority on business success and failure. What should be of deep interest to all of us is how these lessons easily apply to individuals at the personal level. Watch this TEDx broadcast intently, you’ll get quite a lot out of it.

So what do you think? Did Professor Christensen’s message resonate with you in anyway? He has after all studied many of the greatest companies run by some of the smartest people and concluded that by focusing so much time and attention on “the most immediate and tangible evidence of achievement”, they unwittingly implemented a strategy of failure.

Are you aggregating everything up so that you can maximize today’s profitability at the cost of your lifetime success? What are your Statements of Causality? Do you think its possible you might fail to become successful by ardently planning to be successful?

I’d like to hear your thoughts. Leave your comments in the section below.
